Who is really funding the Unity08 organization?
Unity08 is a mysterious, secretive organization that makes a lot of promises. They promise to hold elections for the 2008 presidential campaign online, securely, with no vote tampering. They promise to be a grassroots organization, a people’s movement.
Who is really standing behind this facade of Unity08?
Washington D.C. political insiders. Lobbyists. Millionaires.
A huge amount of the money to fund Unity08 comes from a set of super-wealthy corporate executives and financial dealmakers who work for America’s elites.
Consider Edward J. Mathias, who made a big donation to Unity08. Is he an ordinary grassroots activist just like you and me? Far from it. Mr. Mathias is a founder and managing director of the Carlyle Group, an organization that funnels money to corporations that profit from the Iraq War. He’s served on the board of directors of T. Rowe Price Associates, an elite investment firm. He’s on the board of directors of four different corporations and sits on the Council on Foreign Relations A Harvard University Masters of Business Administration all the way, and one of the core supporters for Unity08.
Other power financial elites funding Unity08:
James Stern, CEO and Chairman of The Cypress Group and director of six other prominent corporations.
Frank Bonsai, who refers to himself as “one of the godfathers of the venture capital industry”.
Glenn Dubin, Co-founder of Highbridge Capital Management.
Dale Lenzner, Associate Dean of the Columbia Business School and venture capitalist with the Juniper Capital Group and three other venture capital groups besides.
William Lanham Walton, chairman and CEO of Allied Capital.
W. Bowman Cutter, managing director of venture capital company Warburg Pincus LLC and former Deputy Assistant to the President for Economic Policy.
Leon Wagner, Chairman of Goldentree Asset Management.
Peter G. Peterson, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City, Chairman and co-founder of the Blackstone Group, Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations, former Secretary of Commerce and former Assistant to the President for International Economic Affairs. Current or former member of 8 corporate boards of directors.
Unity08 a people’s movement? A grassroots organization? I don’t know what’s really going on over at Unity08, but this is no spontaneous movement supported by average American citizens.
